Quick answer: Miami cruise port parking is worth it when you are driving to Miami anyway, travel light and sail on a short cruise. A private car usually wins for groups, flying-in travelers and anyone who does not want to leave a vehicle for a week. Multiply the daily parking rate by your cruise length, then compare it with a ride each way. See PortMiami transportation.

Most cruise travelers pick a parking garage out of habit. Then they find out what a week of parking, a rental car or a long drive home actually costs. Others book a ride and later wonder if parking would have been cheaper.

How cruise parking works at PortMiami

PortMiami has a north side and a south side, and parking is built next to the terminals. You do not park in one big lot and ride a bus. In most cases you pick the garage that matches your terminal.

The port’s parking page lists these pairings. Terminal AA uses Garage AA. Terminal A uses Garage A. Terminal B uses Garage B. Terminal C uses Garage C. Terminal D uses Garage D and Surface Lot D. Terminal E uses Surface Lot E. Terminals F, G and V use Garage G. On the south side, Terminal J uses Garages J and K.

Your cruise line decides which terminal you use, and ships can move between terminals from one sailing to the next. Check your boarding documents before you choose a garage. The port also publishes a parking map you can read before you go.

What the official page currently lists for parking cost

The port’s parking page currently lists a rate of $10 per day or fraction for short-term parking with no overnight stay, and $28 per day or fraction for long-term parking, meaning overnight or longer. That applies to Garages C, D, F and G and Surface Lot E.

Garage AA is currently listed at $20 per day short-term and $35 per day long-term. Garage B, the Norwegian garage, is currently listed at $35 per day per vehicle. The page does not list a rate for Garage A or for Garages J and K, so check the port and your cruise line for those.

Oversized vehicles use Surface Lot E, currently listed at $25 per space per day. Payment is by cash, major credit cards or traveler’s checks. The page says debit cards are not accepted. Prices change, so confirm everything on the official PortMiami parking page before you travel.

The cost formula: parking vs a ride each way

Skip the guesswork and use two short formulas. Fill in current numbers from the official parking page and from a quote for your ride.

Parking total = daily rate x number of days (any part of a day counts as a day) + fuel and tolls to reach the port + any hotel night or Park and Sail package.

Private car total = price to the port + price back from the port. A round trip is two separate transfers, so ask for both in one booking.

Cost lineParking at the portPrivate car
Core chargeDaily rate x cruise daysOne transfer to the port plus one back
Extra daysAdds a full day each timeNo change
Fuel and tollsYours, both waysIncluded in the quoted price once confirmed
Airport parking or rental carNot needed if you drive from homeNot needed
Per person effectSame cost for 1 or 4 guestsSplits across the party
Price riskGarage rate can changeFixed when you confirm the booking

Example: if the long-term rate is $28 and you sail for seven days, the parking line is 7 x $28. Swap in the rate for your garage, then compare it with two private transfers divided by your guests.

Embarkation timing, walking distance and the shuttle

The port’s parking page says all garages are open and staffed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on cruise days, and that a free shuttle runs only on cruise days. On other days, call 305-347-4800. Because the garages sit beside the terminals, check the parking map for the walk from your level to check-in, especially with heavy bags or strollers.

Embarkation windows come from your cruise line, not the port. Your documents state a check-in time or arrival window. Arriving inside it avoids long lines, and arriving far ahead can mean waiting outside the terminal.

Luggage, drop-off and what to do with the car

With a private car, the driver stops at the terminal and you unload there. With parking, you park first, then carry your bags to the terminal. Families often underestimate that second step.

The port’s parking page does not describe a drop-off procedure, so confirm your cruise line’s luggage rules. Terminal A has a drop-off luggage area, according to the port. Keep medications, passports and boarding documents in a bag you carry yourself.

Garages have height limits. The port lists clearances as low as 6 feet 8 inches on some levels, so a tall SUV or a van with a roof box needs a check. Oversized vehicles have their own lot.

When a private car beats parking

Parking is a fair choice for a solo traveler or couple who live within driving distance and want their own car waiting at the end. A private car is the better fit in these cases. Taxis and rideshare apps are also reasonable for one or two people with two bags, though pickup at busy terminals on embarkation morning can mean waiting.

  • You are flying into Miami. You do not have a car to leave behind, and renting one only to park it for a week rarely makes sense.
  • You are traveling in a group. One SUV can carry up to six passengers, so the ride is split many ways, while parking is a fixed cost no matter who comes along.
  • You are arriving early or leaving late. A ride works around a hotel checkout and an afternoon sailing.
  • You are bringing a lot of luggage, car seats or mobility aids, and want to unload at the terminal curb.
  • You are tired at the end of the trip. Disembarkation day can be long, and some travelers prefer not to drive after a week away.

Frequently asked questions

How much is miami cruise port parking?

The port’s parking page currently lists $10 per day for short-term parking and $28 per day for overnight or longer parking at Garages C, D, F, G and Lot E. Garage AA and Garage B are listed higher. Rates change, so check the official PortMiami parking page before you travel.

Can I reserve cruise parking at PortMiami?

Some garages, such as the Norwegian garage, point to a reserve-ahead option through the cruise line. Other garages are pay-on-arrival. Rules differ by garage and by cruise line, so read your cruise documents and the official parking page before you leave home.

Which garage do I use for my terminal?

The port lists a garage for each terminal. For example, Terminal A uses Garage A, Terminal B uses Garage B, and Terminals F, G and V use Garage G. Your cruise line assigns your terminal, so confirm it on your boarding documents first.

Is there a shuttle from the parking garages?

The port’s parking page says a free shuttle is available only on cruise days. Most garages sit next to their terminal, so many travelers walk. Ask your cruise line or check the port’s parking map if you need help getting to the terminal with heavy bags.

What time do the garages open on cruise day?

The port’s parking page says all garages are open and staffed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on cruise days. For other days, it directs you to call 305-347-4800. Hours can change, so verify them on the official page close to your sailing date.

Do the garages accept debit cards?

The port’s parking page lists cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and traveler’s checks as accepted, and says debit cards are not accepted. Bring a credit card or cash, and check the page again before your trip in case payment rules change.

Will my SUV fit in the garage?

Clearances vary by garage and floor. The port’s page lists heights as low as 6 feet 8 inches on some levels. If your vehicle is tall, or has a roof box, check the clearance table. Oversized vehicles park in Surface Lot E.

Is a private car cheaper than parking?

It depends on cruise length and party size. Parking costs the daily rate times your days. A private car costs two transfers. For a long cruise, or a group splitting one SUV, a car can cost less than it seems. Use the formula in this guide.

Should I take a taxi or rideshare instead?

For one or two travelers with light bags, taxis and rideshare apps are a sensible low-cost choice. A pre-booked car makes more sense for groups, children, extra luggage, early flights or when you want a confirmed price and a fixed pickup time.

How early should I arrive at the port?

Follow the check-in window on your cruise line’s documents. It is set by the cruise line, not the port. Arriving inside the window usually means shorter lines. Arriving far ahead of it can mean waiting outside the terminal until check-in opens.

Where do I leave my luggage?

The port says Terminal A has a drop-off luggage area. Other terminals follow the cruise line’s own procedure. Check your cruise documents for luggage tags and drop-off steps, and keep passports, medication and boarding papers in a bag you carry yourself.

Can ART take a group from a hotel to the port?

Yes. ART serves Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. A sedan carries up to three passengers, and an SUV or Premium SUV carries up to six. Book in advance with your cruise line, terminal and guest count, and we will confirm a price.
